Abandoned Well Sealing Rebate Program

Program Objectives:
To provide landowners an incentive-based, volunteer program with the intent of protecting the quality of groundwater, eliminating the safety hazard of open wells to humans and livestock, and promoting the importance of water quality within the East Interlake Watershed District.

Eligibility:
Applicants must:
  • sign and submit a complete "Abandoned Well Sealing Rebate Program Application Form";
  • sign and submit a "Consent to Entry and Release of Liability Agreement"; and
  • own land which contains a riparian zone in the East Interlake Watershed District.
There is no limit to the number of applications a landowner can submit under this program, however, an application must be submitted for each abandoned well.

Terms and Conditions:
  • The EIWD reserves the right to determine if an abandoned well sealing project is required, feasible, and/or eligible under the Abandoned Well Sealing Rebate Program.
  • Feasibility of a project is subject to available funds.
  • Approved projects will receive 100% of well sealing costs of up to $1,000.
